Respect Myself and Others

We started off the meeting by having the girls who went on the Food Pantry tour sign a Thank You card that I can drop off.  {writing a thank you card shows respect}

We also did this service project sponsored by the American Red Cross.  Each girl signed their first name's only to 20 Christmas cards.

We started working on the purple petal today.  We learned about what we can do to respect others.  I made this board on the other side of our kaper chart, so, it'll be handy in case we need to use these words someday.  Each girl got a heart and wrote one word on there how we can be respectful.  Then, we gathered in a circle and talked about each word.

Some of the actions we can take to show respect...love, forgive,volunteer, care and honor.  We came up with 23 words.
Our GREAT troop!!!
Next meeting we will finish up with this petal by respecting ourselves.

Responsible For What I Say and Do

 We started out reading a book called Chrysanthemum.  It's about a little mouse who gets teased because of her name.  We talked about bullying as being responsible for what I say and do.  They completed the wrinkled heart lesson.  Each girl cut out their heart and then I said some unkind words (you can't sit with me, you can't come to my party, your clothes are weird, etc.) and each time I said one, they made a wrinkle in their heart.  Then, I said some kind words (would you like to sit with me at lunch, your clothes are pretty, etc.) and they unfolded a wrinkle each time.  Even though the heart is all smoothed out, the wrinkles still remain, meaning the hurt still stays with you.  Words can be very hurtful and we need to be careful of what we say so we never wrinkle another heart.
 Then we went outside and played a little game.
We had them line up and then I read a statement.  If they thought it was kind/respectful, then they hopped, ran, skipped or jumped to that side.  If I read something mean/hurtful, they would then go to the other side.

They had more fun doing the actions I think.

Sample:  "You can't sit here."

Sample:  "Helping someone pick up something he or she dropped."

 We decided to do our closing ceremony outside and around the tree.

  Right hand over left.

 The friendship squeeze going around the circle.

Since we touched on the subject of bullying, we had each girl sign their name on our No Bullies Troop Pledge.  They had just learned about bullying the week before in school.

Ice Hockey

We had 4 girls attend the Girl's Ice Hockey Day at the Ozaukee Ice Center in Mequon.
They were each given a huge bag with all their equipment in it.
Older girls from Concordia University's Girls Ice Hockey team took them to the locker rooms and helped them get into their gear.

Olivia (in the yellow)  She was on the ice for like 2 minutes, then she started crying.  She hated it.  :(
 Here is Isabella (in the orange)  I think she had fun falling down.  LOL!  She did awesome!

 Here is Addison (in the red)  She looks like a pro!  She did an awesome job too!
Here is Makiah (in the red)  She did a fantastic job too on the ice for over an hour!
They each received a swag bag of goodies for participating.
{TCBY gift card not pictured}
For being their first time on ice skates and with full gear and a hockey stick no less, they all did a FABULOUS job!  WAY TO GO GIRLS!!!
I do believe this event will be held again in the Spring if anybody is interested.

Daisy Scout Journey

Starting at our 2nd meeting in January after the holiday break, we will be working on a Journey.  The picture above is the book they will need to purchase.  You can get it at Woolen Mills or the Girl Scout Service Center.
They will need to bring this book with them to each meeting!  It is their responsibility to remember their book for the meetings.  The picture below is the patch they will receive when we have finished the Journey.  They will actually receive the big patch first and then earn the 3 smaller ones {bird, birdbath and flower} as we complete it.  It will take us the rest of our meetings to finish this journey.
