Courageous and Strong

Today, the girls earned their red petal-courageous and strong.  We talked about what it means to be courageous.  We also talked about what it takes to be strong. 

 We had a very nice ZUMBA instructor come to our meeting to teach us a couple of ZUMBA dances.  She first talked about fitness to the girls.  Exercising and eating the right foods.

 Then, it was time to get up and start moving!

 The girls had a blast!  They were laughing and giggling!

I think everybody was getting a little sweaty.  Just to mention, the art room is very HOT when we are not exercising!  hahaha!

 This picture was for the Daisy troop in Vermont that we are trading SWAPS with.

It looks like we have some flowers starting to sprout.  YAY!  The girls should be bringing them home this week.  Continue to water and take care of them.  Would love to see pictures when the flowers actually bloom.

May 21st Meeting

For this meeting, we are not going to be working on a petal.  We are going to be having some FUN tie dying a t-shirt!  They will be receiving a fun patch for this meeting!  T-shirts will be provided by the troop.  I hope to do something like this shirt with our troop number on it.

I would like the girls who are going to be participating in the West Bend Memorial Day parade, wear these shirts under their uniform.  We will be sending the parade information home with them on this day.

Hope the girls are having fun!  We only have 1 more meeting after May 21st.

SWAPS

 Today we made 3 different SWAPS of 20 each.

 Thank you to everyone who came and participated...

 Makiah and her mom, Jorja and her mom, Grace and her grandpa, Ella and her mom, Samantha and her mom and her brother, Claire, Kaitlin, Autumn, Delanie and Olivia.  You guys ROCKED out these SWAPS!

First SWAP was tic-tac-toe.  We had girls separating the colored beads and counting and then stuffing them in the bag.  Grandpa Jeff cut for us.

The girls cut out the card, they wrote Troop 6031 on the little tag, the parents cut the ribbon and they all stuffed the bags with stars.

 These are popsicles and the little note we put in the bag.  The girls wrapped pipe cleaners around the mini popsicle sticks.  We even made Bomb Pops.

Again, thanks so much for helping.  Can't wait to send one of these to Troop 30344 in Vermont.  We should be receiving our first SWAP from them as well.  Please have the girls keep these.  This will be a memory for  her when they are older.  It's FUN to collect!  Typically, SWAPS are done at events GS attend or you can find other troops to swap with.  They can keep them in a jewelry box, pinned to a large piece of felt, on a hat, etc.

Juliette Gordon Low to Receive Honor

Last week the White House announced that President Obama will posthumously award Juliette Gordon Low the Presidental Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. The award recognizes individuals who have made an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

"Juliette Gordon Low was a visionary, whose legacy lives on in the 59 million American women who have been part of Girl Scouting at somepoint in their lives,"

 said Anna Maria Chavez, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. It is so fitting that on our 100th anniversary, she should be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom."

Early Membership Registration 2012-2013

Early registration is now open!!!  You can click here and then create and account for your daughter.  You can then register her for next year.  Cost is $12.  If you need a to pay by cash or check, please let me know and I will get you the paper form to fill out.  If you register between April 17-June13, your daughter will receive a free Early Registration patch. {see below}

The Ava Walk

Yesterday there was a walk in Greendale. It was a remembrance walk for a little girl that was struck and killed walking in the crosswalk. This amazing family has now turned their hardship and loss of their 5 year old daughter/niece/cousin etc into helping bring awareness for pedestrian safety Advocating Vehicle Awareness (AVA). It was such a fun event. After the walk there were tents set up. The guardian ava tent was one of them. Everyone signs the pledge to bring pedestrian safety advocating vehicle awareness to others, key chains, and guardian ava pink bracelets (that is one of my favorites). The girls favorite things to do were getting face paintings, balloon puppies made and enjoying cotton candy. There were also tents set up to enjoy hot dogs, chips, soda, and water.

It was a wonderful day. Various family members spoke about Ava and the importance of pedistrian safety and vehicle awareness. There was a flashmob that consisted of many high school poms teams, Milwaukee Bucks dancers, and even some people from the Brewers were part of the flashmob. They danced to "Stop in the name of Love". The people that were in the flashmob also had an area where they taught the girls last years flashmob dance... "The Safety Dance".

Ava's mom made the Love Ava sign and then they proceeded through the crowd to start the walk.

Ava's flowers...simply beautiful! It really is a wonderful way to remember such a special little girl! My girls and I will be back next year for the 3rd Annual Ava Walk.
